Wedding DJ Hire: How far in advance should I book before my wedding day?
Famous Wedding DJs can book up quickly, so getting in touch early is essential to secure your date. But how early exactly? Generally, 9 to 12 months before the big day is ideal for booking your wedding entertainment, with most vendors typically opening their calendars 15-18 months in advance. Suppose you're a lucky duck with a wedding planned for a Friday or Saturday in November or March. In that case, these are typically the busiest calendar periods for weddings, so sending an enquiry earlier is best.
Given the vast number of entertainment options, I recommend having a phone call or Zoom with your preferred vendor. Speaking with the musician directly means you can get a good "vibe check" of them and ensure that what they offer matches the music brief you're looking for.
An advantage of booking your entertainment earlier, too, is that you can secure them for a future date at their current pricing.
How to nail your enquiry (and land your dream team)!
A lot of wedding vendors (myself included) cap the number of weddings they work each year, gravitating towards fun, friendly clients who are enquiring because they want THAT vendor (and not just anyone).
For this reason, when you send an enquiry, you want to make sure it stands out. Three tips to nail the inquiry stage is by:
Using the names of the vendors you are enquiring with! It sounds super simple but is often overlooked. Using the vendor's name is so much better than stating, "Looking for a wedding DJ. 6-11pm", as it demonstrates some care has gone into taking the time to get in touch (rather than a ctrl-c ctrl-v approach to all vendors).
Showing your excitement! It's your wedding day, after all, and getting the dance floor right is pivotal to ensure your wedding is a hit and your guests all boogie all night. So express your excitement and show that you value a good time.
Include detail! List what vibe you're going for (e.g. fun party, festival, old school, R&B, a run through the decades, etc), who of your guests is likely going to be the biggest party animal, how many guests will be attending, what's the age demographic, what gets you on the dance floor etc. The more details, the better, and it provides fun talking points for an introductory call with your potential Wedding DJ.
Example of a ‘gold standard’ inquiry
Below is a real-life example of a client of mine nailing their initial enquiry. I had originally ruled out the date they enquired for, as I was booked for the day before and after their date. But after receiving this enquiry, I couldn't help but open up my calendar for their date. They ended up booking, and we had the best night!
If you’re looking for a Wedding DJ to ignite your dance floor, get in touch. I can’t wait to see your kick ass inquiry, and if I am not available, I’ll be able to recommend some other great options.
