Do I need dance floor lighting at my wedding?

It’s no secret that weddings can be expensive, so it’s understandable for couples to consider whether there is value in including dance floor lighting for their wedding day. But the reality is that good dance floor lighting is something you can’t go without if you want a lively party. I caveat this, however, by noting that not all DJ lighting is created equal, so it’s worth asking your DJ what lights they offer to ensure it is high quality (and not tacky) and will enhance the atmosphere of your wedding. Check out this instagram reel for a quick snapshot of what I offer.

Why include lighting?

There are 3 key reasons why I think dance floor lights are a MUST for any wedding:

  1. Dance floor lights signal “party time” to guests and invite them to dance all night.

  2. It is not common for venues or stylists to offer dance floor lighting. So, without these lights, it is either too dark or the venue keeps its house lights fully on (I’m not sure about you, but I feel awkward cutting shapes in a fully lit room—it just doesn’t feel right).

  3. It heats up that dance floor by providing pops of colour, which allows your photographer to take epic photos of your guests tearing it up! If you’ve invested a good photographer, you want to provide them with a canvas that allows them to take amazing photos.

For these (and other) reasons, having dance floor lights is key to unlocking a dance floor that rocks all night. Unfortunately, it’s one of those things that is often overlooked until it’s too late; you want your guests to party all night, but on the night, it just feels like something is missing that would make the dance floor festive and electric.

What lights do I use?

I love using my Astera Pixel Tubes for dance floors. These are 8 high-quality, one-metre vertical LED tubes that emit powerful lighting that covers the entire spectrum of colour (yes, you can even choose your lighting colour scheme should you wish!). I can wirelessly control the colours, brightness and moving patterns from an app, so the dance floor never feels static. These are also battery-operated, with custom-made stands, so I can place them strategically in the room at various heights to ensure optimal lighting. They elevate the atmosphere and make the dance floor inviting to guests.

Why did I choose Astera Pixel Tubes?

I’m mindful that clients have invested in their wedding day. Given the care and detail that has gone into the day's styling, the last thing I want to do as a DJ is ruin the aesthetic by bringing ugly, cheap lights that look like they belong at the Blue Light Disco rather than your wedding.

For this reason, I’ve invested in quality Astera Pixel Tubes manufactured in Germany. These powerful LED lights were actually designed for film, studio, and stage events—however, the colour they emit, their sleek design, and no power leads (as it's battery operated!) make them the perfect dance floor light for weddings.

Another key reason I use these lights is to avoid the dreaded green and red laser dots that sweep across the dance floor. These lasers haunt every wedding photographer: hundreds of coloured dots scattered across the faces and clothes of guests that no camera setting can make invisible. These coloured dots can wreak havoc on photos and are best to avoid.

In summary, adding these lights means you get:

  • sleek and sexy LEDs

  • customisable colours

  • custom stands (with adjustable height)

  • no power cables

  • no red/green lasers

  • kick ass photos

  • banging dance floor all night.

If you want to bring down the house lights and kickstart the party after formalities, adding dance floor lighting is a must.
